Yellow River State Forest, located 17 miles north on IA Hwy 76, is operated by the Iowa DNR. This 8,500 acre forest offers fishing, hunting, hiking, backpacking, equestrian trails and primitive camping.
Effigy Mounds National Monument, operated by the National Park Service, is located on IA Hwy 76. It offers a visitor center, ranger guided hikes and programs, and special activities throughout the year.
Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife Refuge District Office and Visitor Center, operated by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, is located between McGregor and Marquette. The refuge is one of the largest and most popular wildlife refuges in the United States.
